Dear all,
At first, I would like to congratulate the committee for finalizing the selection process. I think all the selected candidates are excellent. However,I would like to raise some issues to be consider in the future selection.
To begin with, the selection seems to be based on the academic records of the students from the special high schools (trường chuyên năng khiếu), not base on life skills and other qualification as specified in the advertisement. Therefore, In the future it is recommended that the advertisement should be circulated among special schools not to the public.
Secondly, the selection does not reflect gender balance. For instance, In total there are 16 girls out of 20 selected candidates, so in the future, the criteria should include:" Girls are encouraged to apply". I think it is unfair not to consider carefully gender balance in the selection.
Finally, there should be financial support for candidates from the other provinces. Travelling to Ha Noi is expensive, if the poor family might have problems to support their children espescially if some candidates might not be selected afterwards.
Thank you very much for your consideration
I personally don't understand the part where you say something like "so it is recommended in the future..." or "so in the future, the criteria should include...". wth???

First of all, I wonder how you knew that the selection was not based on the life skills and other qualification as specified in the advertisement. So basically, in your assumption, you think that students from special high schools only have academic achievement and nothing else, don't you? For that opinion only, I have to disagree with you. And according to the history of this selection in Vietnam, there have been also students who were not from special high schools won the scholarships. Therefore, please don't base on only the result of the selection this year to make such a conclusion and make such an absurd recommendation as you have written above.
I agree that from the list above, the majority of the candidates going to the next round are from special high schools. I think the issue, if there is any, should be how to promote the scholarships more widely, so that not only students from prestigious high schools and big cities know, but also students from other normal high schools and small cities, villages... know and apply.

Ha, now it comes to my favourite topic. I'm not such an enthusiastic feminist who has discrimination towards boys, but I really doubts your question. Why should there be a gender balance? Are you telling me that girls are having priority over boys and the committee should select more boys? The selection for this program is not because you are female, male or bisexual, but it is based on the potential and ability of the candidates. Sorry but I want to ask you, if there were 10 applicants - let's say 5 girls 5 boys for X and we could only choose 2, and the girls showed that they were more outstanding than any boy, should we still reluctantly choose 1 boy and 1 girl for the so-called gender balance, while we knew that choosing 2 girls would be much better? No offense but if the boys want to have the gender balance next year, they'd better work harder and show their ability, not something like whining and blaming the girls who take their places.
Finally, there should be financial support for candidates from the other provinces. Travelling to Ha Noi is expensive, if the poor family might have problems to support their children espescially if some candidates might not be selected afterwards.
At this moment, the Vietnamese national committee is still run by volunteers, so they don't have private fund to support travelling expense. I agree about what you have pointed out and I hope in the future, when the older UWCers have finished their high education and come back, they will have plans to improve this situation. Thank you for raising this issue once again and I appreciate that since you are from Hanoi.
Finally, congratulation for all of the candidates going to the next round. Especially for the only Amser in the list :x
