Topic #1 - Changing your life!

sure  a Korean girl in my school, she said her host sis was so terrible, coz she was fat but she wanted to borrow that girl's sweater. and when she gave it back, the sweater became bigger and bigger
She also said her host family was dirty  coz they often threw the dishes into the washing machine and did it 3 days after

hi guys!
sounds like a trip to US can change your life so much? i also feel like changing my life in this or that sense. so, anyone with any tips how to apply to colleges in US? e.g. when does school year start? how do you find and apply to some colleges? how to get financial aids, etc.? and is it possible to use K12 grad. cert. of another country to apply, instead of using the SAT as most of you got (i.e. maybe A level in UK?).
thanks a lot, hopefully i can get that kinda changing life experience like you guys too!
itsa THL

PS: sorry mod if it might a bit off-topic and might repeat things in box "du ho.c" but i really don't wanna go to that box! its kinda messy there, and not so informative as i want. and btw, how long have you guys been in US? izzit really that kinda KOOL?

Hang aroung and join some clubs. It's not too hard to get along with ur new life.besides, u r very open-minded and talkative!

though u may feel lonely sometimes but do remember ur frens are still around,we hvnt disappeared from earth yet!

wish u hd a good time now.

Thanks Luu, actually now I have thrown myself into a number of clubs: the shool newspaper, the Tree club, the Amnesty International Org., the Multicultural Association and I am tutor in Math! :)
Although joining clubs can keep you busy, it does not necessarily mean you can have close friends there.

Ah, I am practicing skateboard! I want to master it within 2 months! I love it!
To THL: well, you are asking for so much information. It is better that you go to box "du hoc" cause all this info is already there. There are several topics about college application. Anyway, if you want, you can email any of us who are studying here or mod of box "du hoc" for specific answers.

For me, life is exciting right now. I'm going to Mexico tomorrow for Parent Weekend. This trip is for int'l students cuz most American students check out of campus with their mum and dad!

AWESOME! I don't know where to go.. there are some invitations to Boston or some malls nearby.. hic.. Mexico.. so far away.. maybe someday I will visit Canada! :D

You are all so lucky. In my school , rarely do we have a camping or a trip .
Sometimes my friends and I go to downtown Toronto and China Town. There is such a big CT here. And everytime we eat Chinese Food , Dim Sum (very delicious) =P~
If somebody visit Canada and Toronto , i promise I'll take you there . :beerchug: Until Sept 2004 because may be i'll study in the US (Hope that my dream will come true.)

hold on.. Vinh, I thought you were in the US..

I have just read some stories of our friends in box "du hoc". These are stories about the experience of exchange students. After reading them, I do find myself so lucky and all the difficulites I am facing are nothing compared to theirs. No one here can blame me or scold at me. I have much more freedom than they do.

it sounds so fun in US!

Tmr i'll hv my last final yr papers but i hv been playing(mainly swimming in the olympic size pool nearby :-D) since i finished bio papers last week!haha.

I gonna hv sexuality education on Deepavali(festival of light-a holiday)! Argh, I dun want it.I want to hv a day off to go out.I attended a seminar bt it b4.I tink i shud learn sth new from Diep!hahahaha

huong,u bought a skateboard?is it easy to play?Who teaches u?????????????? ;p

Hey Lưu, I thought sexuality education was what u were always looking for ;;)

I also think US sounds a bit happier than UK. In here, we kind of never had a trip for all students together. Not so many clubs. And if there are, just home students who tend to join. Int'l students, keep studying hard, guys.
Things happen like this maybe because i'm studying in a college ( i guess it would be much better in highschool), especially in a state college where you are treated as adults. In highschool, they look after you more carefully.

But Chim, ur is sort of similar to high school in the US as well because after 2 years of A level you still have a 3-4 years in university rite? And I guess Sing sucks then because its education system is similar to UK but it emphasizes a lot on ECA.

hehe,, that's why we should study in the US, Tung! Good luck, hope to see you here. :)

I do find here the freedom to live the way I like. People don't care about the way you dress, your haircut ect.

In the art class, I see some masterpieces .. the students are so creative. We are encouraged to pursue all our seem-to-be crazy ideas. I have just finished a picture made by all the actual dry leaves, it's so cool. I spend hours everyday in the art centre painting whatever I like, cutting, pasting, developing films, printing photos.. The teachers there are always willing to provide me with whatever materials I need for my ideas. This summer, I am sure you will be surprised at all the black and white photos and paintings I bring home.
;)

Are you training yourself to be an artist, Hương? That's cool. In my college, just Art students have permission to use art materials. My major subject is Econ. so I seldom go to art's zone.
I agree that colleges here teach similar programmes to USA's but the environment is so different. In highschool, generally, age range is from about 12 to 18 but in college, age range is from 16 to whatever. So college is ' a building where we study in' , not a ' teenager's world' .

I drew a picture of 2 girls in áo dài biking. I wanted to sell it in a so-called Afghan children auction for $45. I thought that nobody would buy it, but a faculty member did. Yeah! Though the money did not come to me, I was still so happy!

Viet Nam is going to be proud of you , great artists.:)
And i am not out of this trend.Since the day i came here, i found that i can be a famous poet. :D
I have made some poems in free-verse and received acclaim from my Literature teacher and my friends. =D>

To Hương: I hope so too:D
to Diep n DH: wow, never realize that I have a chance to know such great talents:p. One thing I like bout the US is that they give u a chance to excel, to do your best.
Huong, so how is your other ECA? Debate? enjoying it? I haven't received the result of my trial yet...still hoping:D

To Vinh : Why dont you post your poems here so that everyone can see how great our poet is?
Btw, did you study in Trung Vuong highschool? Hello old schoolmate!

To Tung : Have you received the test results that you said you were gonna get the other day?

yeah! I have just come up with another idea for this English club - OUR ENGLISH POEMS! Why not?
There is a gallery in my school tomorrow and one of my photos will be displayed. :D that is a photo of a baby carriage in the shade of a big tree. I name it "childhood"
Now I prefer the black and white photos to the colored. I have to trash 6 photo paper (which costs me a lot) to get a satisfactory one.

To Vinh, please send your poems to the new thread. Thanks

hey guys, studying in US is so fun!

I tink i hv no talent at art at all coz here only students who take arts hv a lot of chances to show off their talents and e students from my school are really gd at arts.

anyway,im not talking bt school anymore coz i'm going home nxt wk! :D Cool! But i hope i hv sth to do at home and my parents wont restrict me to stay at home "for my own safety as now the streets are dangerous"!

is the poem in the signature yours?
