Tell me your idols

Hail Caesar! Why didn't you come to China and prove to the world that you were the best of the best leaders, superior to all.:D

 My Caesar prefered Egyptain girls:D

Actually, with the strength of the Roman Legions, one probably doesn't even need an outstanding leader to conquer China. Northern tribes did it many times, with mostly no-names as leaders.

But these tribes could not maintain their control, and destroyed the cilivization of China ( established a new one, which I think was not equal the original).
Sadly, Roman Emperors took no attention of the East. Had it been so, the Orient would be very different now.

Had it been so, you wouldn't be typing those words...

But true, Caesar was a great leader, juz lack some politicians' qualities... or so it is said in JC of Shakespeare (he's a bit mightier than he should be, though)...

About the northern tribes, i can only remember 1 name: Thanh Cat Tu Han (sorry for the inability to write it in a more original fashion :D)... and that was a great guy,too :D... But still, the Khong Minh in the book is by far the greatest and mightiest ever...

Even if the Roman had wanted to conquer East Asia, I highly doubt if they could have done it. The long march across Europe/Asia would quickly wear the Roman Legion down; the climate change is substantial; they would face resistance not just from the Chinese army (which was much better suited to the terrain) but also raids from the Northern tribes which were very fierce and more mobile than any regular army.
Furthermore, even if they had managed to defeat China, the area that the Roman Empire would have covered would simply be too large to maintain efficient control over.

To put it simply, in a hypothetical battle such that every conditions was equal, the Roman would beat/crush the Chinese. However, a real campaign to conquer China would have been too much for the Roman, simply because of logistic problems. I don't think any Caesar (or any rational ruler) would risk a war with a large empire so far away when the benefit was doubtlful and the land he had was already so vast.

On a side note, actually the two empires did have a rather good relation, with trade going on between the two regions ;) .

I think the reason why Caesar did not want to conquer China is that he was terrified by Chinese characters.:Dj/k

Just some words about why there was no clash between Roman Empire and Chinese Empire:). The Middle East on the road between these two were thrones of many great kings. They even bettered Rome in military forces during some periods;) . At least my Caesar was sensible enough not to risk Roman reputation in such battles.

However, he lost his life at home in the hands of his friends:((

I reaaly like your argument, Mr. Dang Hoang Vu.;)

Trim is one of those Singlish words (for more information, feel free to ask from Hai Long )... it means difficult or hard to comprehend...
hey!!! today i just read an article, actually a short comics. and the word "trim" here should be rewritten as "cheem". I think it should be the correct way to write that singlish word, coz' it's written by singaporean themselves :) hehhe.

PS: sorry for.... err..... well, i didn't really follow the topic heheh.

nah... my English teacher in one side talk on Singlish wrote it as trim, and the Singaporeans here, too...

No one admire out great Uncle Ho?what you mean?Idol in which situation?I adore Uncle Ho...Oh but I would like to be a pop star like Britney someday :D :D

The Ides of March is coming. Sorry for my obsession.

It was on March 15th, 44 BC that my Caesar was assassinated in Rome by a band of senators (may you be fried in fire for ever) . His death removed the threat to the Roman repuplic, but paved the way for another powerful dictator, Octavianus.
His body was burned in the grief of the Romans. hic, may you rest in peace, my idol! One of the greatest man in history, a man of many talents.

I love every tale about him esp this one:

The story is told how he was captured by pirates while still a young man only twenty-two years old. They planned to ransom him for twenty talents of gold but he explained that he was worth much more. The pirates agreed and increased his ransom to fifty talents. While he was their prisoner, he would read to them from books of Roman and Greek literature. When they showed nothing but scorn for him and his books, Caesar promised to hunt them all down and put them to death after he was ransomed. The pirates should have killed him right there instead of laughing at him as if he were a little banty rooster strutting about making threats. Julius Caesar made good on his promises, though. After he was released, Caesar borrowed a ship from the governor of a nearby island and hunted down his captors. After defeating them, he crucified the whole band, leaving them to die of thirst hanging naked on crosses in the hot Mediterranean sun.

I read somewhere that Caesar was - a gay! Tell me that's not true.

Rumors, rumors I hate them:D Intelligent girls like you do not believe them, for sure? :D

Actually, I heard some, too:(

"c. 79 BCE: Caesar, on the staff of a military legate, was awarded the civic crown (oak leaves) for saving the life of a citizen in battle. His general sent him on an embassy to Nicomedes, the king of Bithynia, to obtain a fleet of ships; Caesar was successful, but subsequently he became the butt of gossip that he had persuaded the king (a homosexual) only by agreeing to sleep with him. "

Anyway, Caesar had many wives and such a charming man like him attracted many noble women not only in Rome:D So the "horned" men were jealous, inventing this rumor to warn their wives. But there was no effect, of course:p

Caesar O Mighty! :D

My idol is my granddad, he's a genius, knów about 11 languages(he taught himself mostly). And he did a lot of good things for VN and other countries with his superior knowledge of military (details of that is secret). He was not only a military guy but aslo a scholar. He taught me how to read and write and play chess when i was 4 years old. The chess playing skills that he taught me at that time were good enough for me to win the Wisconsin Scholastic Chess tournament 14 years later.

Hey, I think I know your grandfather. I was introduced to him by an English guy, give me a second to recall his name... ah yes, the name was Ian Fleming
anyway, good that you have a genius as grandfather. far as I can tell, it must be tough for you to live up to it. The truth is harsh, is it not... sigh...

You freak, Hoàng Long. Don't put crap all over the place. I'm not the one you should mess with. You shouldn't give shit to others when you don't know who they are. That will help you a lot later in life.

Calm down, comrade ;). I guess your granddad is my idol too. Probably...Lê Duẩn, rite :D :D

ah, of course, I dont know who he is. It was just a guess, after all. Perhaps Fleming has no part in this big mistery. A big secret, isn't it ? Comrade, better keep a low profile, huh? this world is scary, is it not. Danger is lurking around every single corner. How come such a young lad can realize this truth so soon. Man, I'm impressed.

oh, men what's the big problem here? Cheer up! We should sit down, get some tea and talk freely again. Hoang Long, yes the world is full of danger, evils are lurching everywhere. Wht not enjoy life right now instead of poking verbally at your friends? ;)

I have a question for you, comrades? To avoid the enimity in this thread:p

Caesar is not considered Emperor. ??

All materials I have browsed through claim that Augustus, Caesar's grandson, is the first Emperor in Rome?

Caesar is only mentioned as Imperator ( dictionary says it means the same as Emperor), General, Consul? And he held all the power in his hands forcing the Senate to accept every law passed by him.
