The Giuseppe Meazza Stadium was a gift for AC Milan from its president Piero Pirelli and was inaugurated the 19th September of 1926. The stadium is also called "San Siro", which refers to a Saint. Approximately the building of the stadium took one year which resulted in four stands and a capacity of 10,000. The stands were enlarged in 1939 which increased the capacity to 55,000 spectators. In March 1952 the stadium's famous ramps were build and the total capacity became about 150,000 people, although the Milan council decided that only a maximum of 100,000 visitors were allowed, so one could guarantee the security in and around the stadium.
The final renovations were performed in 1989 due to the fact that it would be the host of the World Cup Final of 1990. Eleven stair towers were build and a third ring was added, this all resulted in a capacity of 85,000 spectators. Also a Fiberglas roof was constructed to give the visitors some comfort.

As you can see the stadium consist of three different rings, which are divided by coloured zoned. Orange and red for the rectangular zones and green and blue for the curved zones. The stadium can be found on the west of Milan in the area called Ovest di Milano. To access the stadium with public transportation the following travel times are given:

Linate airport : 30 minutes
Malpensa airport : 50 minutes
