My name is Hoang Kim Hung, an undergraduate applicant from Vietnam (application number: D08002527). Recently, I’ve received a letter from your Office of Admission to inform me about my unsuccessful application to your university. However, after revising the letter carefully, I still have certain questions.
To each applicant who considers NTU is one of the best universities, spent time, money and effort to apply to NTU, the failure in shortlist is a big deal. I’m wondering why my application is rejected (thus, I don’t have chance to take UEE). I hope to hear from you a reasonable answer that can satisfy not only me but my friends who have been dropped out.
From the requirement of sending supporting documents, I can guess that the only your university consider in each application from Vietnam is applicant’s average points. That makes sense because average points show the previous academic progress of applicant. Somehow, for Vietnamese case, they don’t tell much. Regarding to your experiences of considering Vietnamese candidates, I believe that that you and your officer realize that the average scores in Vietnam are "relative" and for some reasons, they are not reliable at all. For example, a teacher from High school for gifted students requires much more than the others from normal High school, thus, to have a good mark from him or her is much more difficult. That's the reason for your UEE. But because of having got not extremely competitive average score, I failed from shortlist, and then cannot take UEE. That means I missed the only chance to fairly compete to attend your university with other candidates with my true knowledge and skills, not my scores. So, with all my respect to NTU, I wonder whether you could give me the second chance, let me take the UEE to show my true abilities. I believe that I won’t let you down.
I think this time is quite late to add any information to my application. Last week, my result of IELTS arrived at the same time of your email. And I have got 6.5. I hope this additional information can be helpful, not only for me, but also for you in order to understand me.
Finally, I believe that you can make the right decisions in my case ( especially after additional information ).
