Background
SJI International has become a regional centre for the education of students with outstanding leadership potential across the ASEAN region and beyond.
Its International Baccalaureate Diploma started in January 2008 with a diverse and truly outstanding group of students.
The initiative is supported by several senior figures in the Singapore Government along with other old boys of St Joseph’s Institution, a leading Singapore school for over 155 years. This group and other supporters of SJI in the region have provided money for two or three year scholarships for students who are taking the IB Diploma course.
Regardless of race and religion, the scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit in academic and extra curricular activities as well as potential leadership qualities. A good command of English is a prerequisite. Although SJI International is a Catholic school, it has an open and inclusive culture and non Catholics make up at least half the school population.
"I am excited at the opportunities our students will have, and the good that SJI International can do in nurturing a new generation of young people in our region who can thrive and succeed in the our global world, and who can build bridges of friendship and understanding so that love, peace and hope will be the dominant language, rather than hate, war and despair."
Mah Bow Tan
Singapore Minister for National Development and Patron of Leadership Council

Where do boarding students live?
They live together with other SJI International boarders, mainly scholarship holders, in three large houses that are located close to each other in Katong in Singapore. The students make the 20 minute journey to school in the morning on a coach. In the evening they take public buses home, a journey which takes about 45 minutes. An experienced boarding house supervisor, who worked for many years at UWCSEA in boarding, lives with and cares for the students. The students are very happy.
