Nghe có vẻ hay đấy ạ, ít ra em cũng biết là cơ hội xin được học bổng qua con đường Lac cũng nhỏ đi 1 tí.
Nếu bạn Lê được 36k scholarship thì tuyệt quá rồi còn gì, tớ thấy thường các trường lấy khoảng 22k tuition fee cới 22k room and board là cùng, nếu được 36k thì chỉ phải đóng thêm 1 ít khỏang 6k (ko ít lắm) hoặc là nếu vào trường bình thường không đỉnh lắm thì có khi còn thừa ra 1 tẹo (hy vọng mình ko phát ngôn bừa bãi)

Còn cái này, đúng LAC là Liberal Arts College. Trường Business and Management thường là khu or bộ phận nhỏ của một University lớn. Tùy vào trường, họ có thể gọi là School of Business, or Business School ... Vì LAC nhỏ, nên có thể họ không gọi là school, gọi là Department of Business chẳng hạn. Cám ơn anh Vũ đã trả lời, giải thích cho em, nhưng em vẫn áy náy vì cái tên Liberal Arts College (vì có chữ Arts thì em nghĩ nó là trường về khoa học xã hội chứ nhỉ, nếu vậy thì mặc dù nó có Department of Business đi thì nó vẫn chỉ là tay trái thôi à? Ví như trường Bách khoa của mình vẫn có ngành học là ngành kinh tế đấy thôi, nhưng em không thích học kinh tế trong trường Bách khoa đâu) trả lời giúp, giải tỏa cho em băn khoăn này với nhé!!!

Typical LAC thì không có Business em ạ.

To Lê: 36k thì đã bao gồm tuition fees + boarding fees rồi. Nếu có đóng thêm thì chỉ 1-2k là cùng vì thể nào nó cũng cho campus job. Đấy là chị nghĩ thế còn ko chắc vì cũng có những trường quá đỉnh chắc đắt hơn. Nếu em được 36k là quá ổn rồi còn gì.. Congrats!! :)

L.A.C la type của trường, đào tạo rộng, General Education or Core yêu cầu nhiều hơn, những vẫn major courses đầy đủ, chứ cũng không phải là tay trái tay phải gì đâu. Anh không biết em học thế nào, những anh dám chắc là không có trường nào tệ đến mức không đáp ứng được nhu cầu học của em (các trường LAC)

Lên Grad rồi, nó mới thành School of các kiểu, lúc đó là chuyên sâu nghiên cứu, khác.

Này thì hơn bừa 1 tí, theo hiểu biết của mình, không ở đâu trên Mỹ lại ăn ở đến 22k, trừ khi đú. Ở East average thường là 8-10k, ở West rẻ hơn là 5-7k (riêng room board). Mà trường xịn, tuition phải 30-33k/year đấy.

Đấy là em đang nói trong trường hợp ghê nhất để bạn ấy còn lường trước được chứ (mà anh có phải là anh Vũ ở d3net ko ạ? Nghe giọng wen wen ;;) )
 
I will finish my course for A-level this year in the UK. In the matter of fact.... i have got no money to study anymore, and the Uni in UK doesnt give any scholarship or finaid for Engineering sts..... tt's why i wanna take a gap year and intend to apply for American uni next year (tt may be easier to have a finaid or a scholarship). But looking at the common appl.... i just wonder tt, if i do not enroll any course during the time i am taking the gap year.... how can i get the recommendation of teacher?
One more ques....
does the LAC also have some engineering course particularly chemeng..... ????

You should enroll in some activities (college courses, volunteer work, part-time job,etc) during your gap year (If you don't, I doubt the admissions officers will think highly of your application). Thus you can ask your supervisors for recommendations. You may have to save those recommendations written by your teachers at CTC this year for the UCAS form for later use as well (or you may ask them to rewrite those recs: the more personal, the better).

Some LACs here have very good engineering programs, espicially Harvey Mudd and Swarthmore. Some others like Lafayette, Union, etc are ranked highly by US News for having best undergraduate engineering programs. I'm not sure if they specificly have chemical engineering. However, most top LACs have 3-2 programs with "notorious" engineering schools such as Caltech, Stanford, Princeton, or Columbia, by which you'll receive a BA from your college and a BS from your engineering school (and which I think is pretty cool).

Anyways, i will go back to VN about 5th of July coz i will go to Singapore with the invitation of my friends' parent. Normally, i will leave the Uk about 2nd of July so i will stay in Sing for about 3 days.
i also intend to do sth during my gap year... firstly, i will rejoin in the International YOuth organization that i used to be a member in my col. now. Maybe, i will try to find a job ( probably a volunteer job or sth). Quite cool, i ve got so many plans to do in my gap year and now what i have to do is put it in order and promise myself to finish it.
So when u will be in VN... i will call you anyways when i am back.... so many questions to ask you and Lanh about America. ok.

This might sound stupid, but what "fee waiver" really is (I know it's a kind of assistance applied to students who are from poor countries, but not sure) and how to obtain it. Can u guys give me some clues?

hm... maybe I'm wrong but I think fee waver is different from what Sơn said. For the SAT, there is a yellow form for fee waver that has to be signed by a responsible person in ur school. For college app, you can write a letter to college and get someone confirmed that you need fee waver.
 
There are fee waiver for SAT, TOEFL, ACT, college apps. For SAT you can get maximum 2 fee waivers for SAT I and 2 fee waivers for SAT II (please double check). For ACT, you can only get fee waiver one time. For TOEFL, you can get fee waiver for half the price.

For college apps, there's a form from the College Board that allows you waivers to 4 colleges. But if you apply for more, you can write a letter explaining how poor you are, and ask couselor for a signature. That also works.
 
but how to get this fee waiver... can u guys give more detailed information about this??plz. Coz i am not studying in any school in VN now so how can i get letter from my col. ( I am taking a gap year so i am not enrolling in any col.) What can i do right now?? Need a lot of help from u guys. Thanks
 
You have to write it and then have it signed by a counselor. I posted a sample letter some time ago in this board, try to use this forum's search system. Keyword: fee waiver. Gluck!

Can i use the same form of fee waiver for SAT??? If i have a form, where i have to send them to??? Is this the Uni tt i will apply to??
I've got another prob now... i dun really have a counselor coz i am taking year break so Should i ask my teacher in high school or my teacher in my old col. in England to sign it??? Does this really matter???
 
1. There is a specific form for the SAT, I think u have to obtain it somewhere. I didn't use it, more over the SAT is not that expensive, sometimes it is not worth the hassle. :)

2. Attach the application fee waiver to ur application forms and send to the admission office.

3. You can have some designated officer of ur school/ college sign it. If it doesnot apply then ask your teacher.

Most colleges should accept ur fee waiver? It is their policy. If in doubt, u can email them and ask.

My advice: read everything relating to studying in America in this board, time-consuming but extremely useful.
