hey people, calm down, she's just a girl, and besides, brits is really nice, and good looking too. :)(if ya know wat i mean). and yes, she is kinda ad-ing for her neo, but it's nice though, and so be nice to her ok? and to tell u the truth, i dont really believe in the ability of E centers in Hanoi to teach students to be as advanced as Hằng (Lauren) in any amount of time. they r just 2 messed up. (no wat i min?)

it's very good, you can learn a lot there, not just English

OH oh Min Min, thanku so much. You r so nice , handsome and lovely to say such good things about me. I am proud really(hehe)
Hopefully u said the truth huh? If i see any irony there, certainly u wil be killed ( Oh man !). You told me that u were the only one supported me. Actually there were two more , right ?

What the hell are you saying? Min Min? Nice? Handsome? Lovely?
Oh hic hic I'm gonna die8-}
Hey Min Min:)) look what she says:D:mrgreen:

Well, it is nice to know that so many people are interested in E. like that :). But believe me, no center can help you if you do not do it seriously. I am studying at a US University right now. I know a lot of friends studying at the Intensive English Program (IEP) here at my University. Hey, look what they got:

- Native, professional instructors (the center/instructors surely has cetificates/approval ....).
- English speaking environment (they ARE in the US now).

Still, a lot of them spend 2, 3 years there without getting 550 TOEFL! Some of them can now speak quite well. I feel comfortable speaking with them. Still, it is quite different when you have to write/read in English.

So my advice is: good English teaching center is fine, but it is NOT sufficient (even not necessary for some people!).

To Tran Hong Ha: I do know you, dont I :D.

con zz kia, mày có cần phải thế 0? chờ đấy, tí nữa tao ra tao chửi mày te tua luôn. and to brits and other people that are reading these lines, i think that neo is different from other centers in Vietnam and it's probably the only place in VN that i think people will be able to get sth out ò an english course. think about that.

Hey ZZ, do I know ya ? Are SI member ? I saw you in our 9A topic so can u be my old classmate ?

Well, it’s good for some web surfer like me to finally read some good point on this topic. I was very much impressed by Lauren’s (or Britsmoon) writing style. If she’s only 15 and majors in Chemistry, then her English is getting close to advance level. What many people cannot but she can is jotting down ideas and stating her opinions clearly and straightforward so reader can understand “between the lines” despite the fact that there were tons of grammar as well as spelling mistakes.

In regard to Dinh Trong Thanh Trung’s point, I support his opinion that you should take it seriously when it comes to learning English. It’s really true that many Vietnamese students are having good English learning environment like Trung's friends in the States yet they don’t make much progress. Most of them neglect fundamental skills and get busier and busier doing something else. They don’t understand a simple truth that without knowing where to go in the first place, they will get nowhere afterward.

Learning a language is a process which takes time and efforts. The question is how the process works or what to do first and second and third and so on. Because without the first right step, the second, third… won’t work and eventually you still have to go back to the first step and do it again and again until you really find the right thing to put first. And when you’ve found the right thing to put first, you also need to know how to put them first in effective and efficient ways which then will become stepping stones for future steps. Unfortunately, language learning students never knew about that and therefore become totally dependent on those so-called “centers” and mastering English somehow has become mere luck since attending a “center” doesn’t really guarantee you success. It just gives you a sense of keeping you busy doing something that you don’t know whether that thing is first thing to do or not.

However, finding a suitable English-speaking environment where you can enjoy and grow is vital for your language learning process. It would give you opportunities to test yourself, to learn from others’ experience as well as mistakes. It doesn’t really matter much if you are learning English in America or Vietnam. Of course, if you are learning a language in the country where that language is spoken, then that’s perfect. But it does matter how proactive you are in the process of finding or creating an environment where you can fit it completely.

Well, folks! I still want to go on sharing with you, but the fact that our English board is dying really discourages me. Where are you admins and mods? Get up and do something!

ok, u know wat, i agree with this guy, not all the way but he has his reasons and u can't say that it's not a good one. the fact that a 15 year old who majors in chem. wouldn't usually be that good at english. heck, she may be even able to speak english better than most of my classmates. ( oh and I think the guy who wrote this, his name is Huck).

Mr Guest ! I don’t know how to ask you then, so just call you Mr.Q.
I am agree with you that fundamental skills are really necessary at the very first beginning of one person’s English study process.
If some people who have studied English for a long time , but they did go the wrong way, so they should see what the right track is and then go for it. Even they have to throw away many things they’ve learnt before . Is it what you mean ?
I just have one question for you . I myself saw that what i did study was not so good. I always learnt hard things like complicated vocab, Ielts reading exs, Toelf exs, and even some Sat verbal exs. But i didn’t get good mark in my English semester test. I didn’t know why. I didn’t know what to do by then.
And after some days thinking about it. I knew that i didn’t study properly. I should change. But by then, i didn’t know how to change. Now i am 12th grader, i don’t have time anymore. So what should i do ? should i start from the beginning ? should i let everything i know about ielts and toelf fly away ? I cant. I wanna get high score in Toelf, i wanna get the scholarship. I wanna do many many things.
But I don’t have time. I don’t have much time to go again. What should i do ?
Even now if all of you can give me some advices. I am not sure if i can choose one. I am afraid that i one more time, get the wrong way. So Mr. Q, what is your advice to me ? It might save my life. Thank you!

i think u shouldn't throw away anything at all, just do wat u can with ur self and english ability and try to not make mistakes in grammar like "i am agree" anymore. I think then u should do fine. oh and if u want to increase ur vocabs, read lotsa books, magazines. and forget about toefl and ielts for now. u know ur ability is not enough to get a high score right now, so stop worrying about them, start reading to increase ur vocab, and come back to ielts and toelf about 2 years later, by then, if u have been reading lotsa books like i am suggesting then i think english will be a cinch for u by then.

thx Min Min:mrgreen:, it works for meh( I'm not the guest) so can you lend me some of your books;;-)
c'mon generous guy:p
