Should we use English this way?

how nice, I've never ever seen any native english speaking person (American, English, Australian ...) using "viet" for vietnamese, or asking me if I'm "viet", given that they've been speaking English since .... you know ... when they were born.

It's not too important, but I myself, dont like using "Vietnamese" as viet. remember, "I'm not viet, I'm Vietnamese"

Just one advice for DangHienHoa: If you use slangs too much, you may forget what the formal one is. for talking, chatting, noone care, but if you wanna go further than that, you'll get trouble. Dont abuse them

btw, you should look at who you are talking to, in order to know how you should talk. It isnt a nice way using "vietnamese-overseas-english" to talk to Vietnamese or "learning pure english people" though.

And Mr.Hà, I don't see what's wrong with 'viet', but anyway I appreciate your opinion. Thanks for your advice.

In fact I hate slangs. Sir Hà uses them too much while criticizing yoou at the same time. That's what I mean.

The way you write is rather nice if limited.

Let's make this shitty argument straigt.

Real patriotic Vietnamese (those who are so much so that they become real freaks :D ,) view being called Viets pretty much in the same way as black people view being called niggers. An example of this type? Phi bác Hà ra không ai đảm nổi.

Lousy Vietnamese (those that love to be called commi bastards as it appears trendy) just don't give a s-h-i-t about whether others call them Viet or Vietnamese. Anyway, why the big fuss? An example of this type? No volunteer? I recommend myself. :D

Anyway, just for the record, I don't think very many educated Americans would call a VIETNAMESE a VIET.

You have mentioned once English now has been mixed, could any of you pls tell me what 'ceteris paribus' is? Sometimes it is so annoying understanding words like that. thanx
oh, bwt, i think 'viet' implies 'vietcong', quite a bad word.
 
You are a student of economics, I presume. 'ceteris paribus' is not an English phrase. It's a Latin phrase commonly used in the field of economics and should be understood as: "Other things being equal." If you want to be cool, use it ;), otherwise, normally "other things being equal" is the more popular phrase in an English environment.

Thank you, Long. I've asked about that a couple of times but the explanations are even worse, not good as yours. Are you an economist too? Just a word came to mind at the moment. Still got loads to ask :). (very bad at that myself :p)
