JUST UNDER THE SURFACE

I took this in my favorite rainforest on Vancouver Island, Canada. It is my reminder to pause, be still and be open to what is waiting for me just under the surface. Photography draws me into the moment; it is my satori. I never forget that I do not take a photo—it always takes me.

PRIMARY COLORS

I took this photograph on a recent visit to Vermont. It makes me want to sit down in one of the colorful chairs and just breathe the cool autumn air, listening to the quiet sounds of nature.

DAY'S BEGINNING

My husband and I got up early one morning and headed down to the shore of Lake Michigan in southeastern Wisconsin to catch this beautiful sunrise. The seagulls seemed to greet us with great expectations of the dawning day.

WHITE SANDY BEACHES

This photo was taken in the Florida Keys. It is one of the most relaxing places to go and watch the sunset. Here, you can solve all the world's problems—or at least forget about your own.

BEE HAPPY

After suffering from chronic migraines for years, I picked up a hobby that relaxes me. Photography has saved my sanity and has let me share my talent with many others. Here is a shot from a day I needed to be an observer at a barbecue rather than interacting because of my migraine. Patience does matter!

FLOWING STREAM

I am fortunate to live near hiking trails on a small mountain in northern Alabama. This is my favorite place, a peaceful mountain stream, where I like to bring a book and my morning coffee.

NATURE'S JEWELS

Those who can enjoy the beauty of a simple flower don't need diamonds.

COLUMBIA RIVER BRIDGE

This bridge represents an ending and a beginning in my life. I sit on my balcony and reflect on the end of a chapter of my life and look ahead to new beginnings.

NANTUCKET SIDEWALK

Strolling a tree-lined sidewalk in a quaint part of town steadies my world and brings it back within grasping distance.

MORNING PEACE

when the sky blushes,
the water still as silvered glass
and stares shine,
one more time at their brightest
before the first stretch of dawn,
i sit with silence to greet the day…

LOVELY SUNSET

I snapped this beautiful picture one evening after I got home from work. My husband and I live on the water and we have started a sunset album of all the beautiful sunsets we have seen together. This just happens to be one of my favorites.
