Yesterday, Today, & Tomorrow

There are two days in every week that we should not worry about, two days that should be kept free from fear and apprehension.

One is YESTERDAY, with its mistakes and cares, its faults and blunders, its aches and pains. Yesterday has passed, forever beyond our control.

All the money in the world cannot bring back yesterday. We cannot undo a single act we've performed. Nor can we erase a single word we've said--yesterday is gone!

The other day we shouldn't worry about is TOMORROW, with its impossible adversaries, its burdens, its hopeful promise and poor performance. Tomorrow is beyond our control.

Tomorrow's sun will rise either in splendor or behind a mask of cloud--but it will rise. And until it does, we have no stake in tomorrow, for it is yet unborn.

This leaves only one day - TODAY.

Any person can fight the battles of just one day. It is only when we add the burdens of yesterday and tomorrow that we break down. It is not the experience of today that drives people mad--it is the remorse of bitterness for something which happened yesterday, and the dread of what tomorrow may bring.

Therefore, let's live one day at a time!

Happy New Year's Day.

PAID IN FULL

A boy came up to his mother in the kitchen one evening while she was fixing supper, and he handed her a piece of paper that he had been writing on. After his mom dried her hands on an apron, she read it, and this is what it said:

For cutting the grass ...................................................$5.00
For cleaning up my room this week .............................$1.00
For going to the store for you ......................................$.50
Babysitting my kid brother while you went shopping ...$.25
Taking out the garbage ...............................................$1.00
For getting a good report card ....................................$5.00
For cleaning up and raking the yard ............................$2.00
TOTAL OWED: ...........................................................$14.75

His mother looked at him standing there expectantly, and the boy could see the memories flashing through her mind. So she picked up the pen, turned over the paper he'd written on and this is what she wrote:

For the 9 months I carried you ..................................No Charge
For all the nights I sat up with you ...........................No Charge
For everytime I pray for you ......................................No Charge
For all the tears you have caused .............................No Charge
For all the nights filled with dread .............................No Charge
For all the worries I know are ahead ........................No Charge
For the toys, food, clothes and even wiping your nose, there's still No Charge

When her son finished reading what his mother had written, there were great big, old tears in his eyes. He looked straight up at his mother and said...Mom, I sure do love you!!!!!

And then he took the pen and in great big letters he wrote: "PAID IN FULL"

Merry Christmas

In the rush of the merry morning,
When the red burns through the gray,
And the wintry world lies waiting
For the glory of the day,
Then we hear a fitful rushing
Just without, upon the stair,
See two white phantoms coming,
Catch the gleam of sunny hair.

Rosy feet upon the threshold,
Eager faces peeping through,
With the first red ray of sunshine
Chaning cherubs come in view;
Mistletoe and gleaming holly,
Symbols of a blessed day,
In their chubby hands they carry,
Streaming all along the way.

Well we know them, never weary
Of their innocent surprise;
Waiting, watching, listening always
With full hearts and tender eyes,
While our little household angels,
White and golden in the sun,
Greet us with the sweet old welcome -
"Merry Christmas, everyone!"
