Just wandering around some forums, I saw this question: "What is the meaning of life?" Well, interesting but not easy to answer, rite :D? Does anybody know?

I think, instead of answering that, why shouldn't we ask what makes we feel good about our lives? That may be your supportive family and friends. Or good health? A day out with wonderful weather? A fulfilling career? Lots of money or lots of love?
Why do you think some people who face great adversity still manage to be happy, while others who seem to have it all do not?

Please take this oppotunity to share your personal key to happiness to other people. I guess, this is the most meaningful thing we should do in life ;)

For me, it's wisdom - knowledge and relationship - like a happy family in particular, or good social relationships in general... they're truly what I really want in life....
However, if there is no limit, I wish I would have lots of money and power as well...

once, a friend sent me this message : steps to happiness. I don't remember all of it but there is one part that I always remind myself.

You have to find out who you are and be that
You have to decide what comes first and do that
You have to discover your strength and use them
You have to learn not to compete with others
Because no one is in the contest of "being you" :x

When I am overwhelmed with work, disappointed by myself, I often sit down and ask what to do first and what type of person I am. This helps me a lot. :)

This sounds a bit simple, but I think it's true to some extends

Happiness means to bring happiness to others. :)

mẹ hằng ava trông quái quá. abt happiness. happiness means always able to smile. :D

'Always' be able to smile doesnt necessary mean happiness. It may well mean sum mental disorder. LOL.
To me, happiness mean you hardly have to regret abt things u did. But that's impossible, so being happy could mean being really satisfied after u have done sum thing that u always wanted to accomplish, though that emotion may not last long.

not necessary... sometimes when I am so sad, I am still capable of smiling, joking and making people around me happy. Just never want anyone to see me sad and feel sorry for me.
I love this quotation:
"Happiness is like a coke, you get it as a by product in the process of making something else."
Sometimes, it is really easy to find happiness while walking, studying, watching kids playing, listening to music, or even when you wake up in the morning on a sunny day :)

I agree that being happy doesn't mean that you're able to smile all the time. In fact, a smile is, in my opinion, the most simple yet effective kind of masks. A demure smile can hide the most turbulent of emotions, hence the saying: "Never trust a smiling man." That, I admit, is a little harsh. But I digress.

The thing is, I don't find happiness manageable at all. What I mean is, it comes and goes quite uncertainly, and is usually the direct consequence of something else. For example, winning the lottery is a pretty effective joy-bringer. As for me, I find it almost impossible to cheer myself up, and as life doesn't have so many bright quirks to offer, I guess that would explain why people say that I'm moody and unpredictably taciturn. Albeit, there are three exceptions: hot chocolate, a summer storm, and a very special three-letter word ;)

However, I still wonder what is the meaning of the happiness, it 's up to each one of us. In my case, whenever I feel well, it's my happy time

According to Webster’s dictionary, happiness is the feeling of elation, general sense of well-being and contentment,a pleasurable or satisfying experience.
We’ve always been told that we should be content with what we have. To a certain degree I agree. But what we have should not be the limit of what we can desire. With understanding of human behavior we now know that the more you suppress what you desire, the more the tendency for us to go into extreme. Think of a metal spring ,the more you compress it the more it stores that energy that will eventually need to be un-sprung. If satisfaction indeed is an ingredient to happiness, why do we hear and read stories after stories of people who have attained what seem to us lofty goals who are just miserable? Indeed, some of these giants in human achievements appear to be misanthropes. We know that it is not enough to demand of anyone to be satisfied with what we have. It is human nature to be dissatisfied. In fact that is what drives one’s effort towards something better. If we are satisfied with everything we have and do, what would motivate us to create better medicines or even a better mousetrap?
Happy is not to focus on having the ultimate goal but on being able to take those little steps towards that goal. "Keeping your eyes on the prize," will make us lose contact with what’s around us. The journey. On the other hand watching our every step will make us tentative and unsure of what to do next for fear of falling.
Have you ever heard of a power tie? Or that red exudes power and confidence? Guess what, a tie is no more powerful than a pair of sock. That is why your power tie yesterday looks absolutely wimpy today! And Red is just another color. How you decide to feel tomorrow morning will be exactly how you will feel and affect others. Just ask your girls, your friends. If you haven’t yet, try it. ;)
I don’t remember who’s the guy said,"Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be". Simply understand, happiness is a choice just like the choice of what to wear to work :D

Yup, I totally agree with bro Phương: TO BE HAPPY OR NOT IS JUST A CHOICE.

And the first step you gotta learn is not to believe in anything, anyone, just let them be. I heard so many ppl saying things like to believe is their puspose in life. I mean, to me, its just a unhealthy conception. I believe in one thing that: EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE. It means all the best things, and yet all the worst things can happen to me.

About finding true happiness, I suggest u guys should find and read The Four Agreements (Don Miguel Ruiz). Here the 4 agreements:

BE IMPECCABLE WITH YOUR WORD:

Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.

DONT TAKE ANYTHING PERSONALLY

Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you wont be the victim of needless suffering.

DON'T MAKE ASSUMPTIONS

Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness, and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.

ALWAYS DO YOUR BEST.

Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judement, self-abuse, and regret.

Yup, the second I first read the book, my life changed dramatically, it was almost like electricity, honest to God!

oh Trang, a friend of mine always shouts at me and says that i shouldnt take things personally. I dun really understand the phrase, yet now that i do. Thx. The effects of this book on you must be the same as of "seven habits of highly effective people" on me. My perspectives have changed so much as i read the book.
By the way, when you reap successfully what you sow, you'd feel happy.

TO Sơn: I totally agree with you; sometime smiling a lot í the symtom of mental disoder.
I have encountered some mentallu disable kids who are going to the same school with me in U.S.
One of them smiles a lot.
About happines, to me being happy is feeling peaceful inside, doing things that you want to do( not are forced to do due to social reponsibilities).
I am kind of feeling happy when I am with nature too.
Nature is sweet and treat everyone equally.

Nature is sweet and treat everyone equally.
--> true.. thats so true...
Is there real hapiness in life though? :-/ Sometimes I feel I have everything, but the next moment it's gone. "Nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky..."...
I love these quotations from "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coehlo:
+)".. To realise one's destiny is a person's only obligation.."
+) "- My heart is afraid that it will have to suffer
- So tell ur heart that the fear of suffering is worse than suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams..."

Thus, for me, real happiness is when u r courageous enough to follow what ur heart truly tells you. To be true to yourself. Its when you have inner peace. Simple rule, hard to follow.... But remmber.. hope is human nature. so don't lose hope!

Many times people say that they listen to inspriring music to get out of a bad mood. Does any of you have any suggestion about a list of those "happy" songs? Although this might be a post in the Music box, I think the inspriring lyrics are what we are considering the most now..., English box is a good place right?

Do you like:

1. Ace of Base - It's a beautiful life
2. Art Garfunkel - Always look on the bright side of life
3. Beattles - Here comes the sun
4. Bobby McFerrin - Don't worry Be happy

So how can I change the way I smile, because I want to make my own characteristc smile& also happiness :D

Well, "What is the meaning of life?". For me, it's friendship, with its most beautiful and valuable meaning. It's also dream and belief. I have my own way of living and I want to keep it ^_^. I have friends that I can trust than anything else, I'll can risk my life for them. I have my dream, for what I can do everything. That's enough, right?
