A Silicon Valley startup claims to have cracked one of most elusive goals of the software industry: a near-universal emulator that allows software developed for one platform to run on any other, with almost no performance hit.

Turley said he watched a Windows laptop running the Gimp image editor for Linux. The software quickly and efficiently performed a series of processor-intensive graphics transformations and effects, Turley said.

"There was no performance hit," he said. "I was expecting a lag, some symptom that things were not as they should be, but that was not the case. There was no hand-eye delay. It seemed completely normal. It responded really quickly."

Cái nì rất đáng nghi ngờ. Lý do:
- Trong bài viết có nói đến 2 chương trình được thử nghiệm, 1 là The Gimp chạy trên Windows - vấn đề là ở chỗ The Gimp có phiên bản chạy native trên Windows --> rất đáng ngờ tại seo lại lấy The Gimp ra thử nghiệm?? Seo ko lấy game Battle for Wesnoth của Linux ra thử nghiệm chẳng hạn. Cái thứ 2 là Quake III cho Linux chạy trên máy Apple, nghe có vẻ hợp lý, game là graphics intensive muh lị tuy nhiên phần nhân của Apple là OpenDarwin, 1 hệ điều hành *BSD phát triển từ Unix. Phần mềm dành cho Linux có thể chạy trực tiếp trên máy Apple cài Yellow Dog Linux mà ko cần chỉnh sửa source code ---> chẳng nói lên được rì. Trong khi đó, cái tất cả mọi người chờ đợi nhất - chạy games Windows trên Linux thì ko thấy đả động rì đến. Bài báo trên chỉ là 1 bài giới thiệu ---> có quyền so sánh giữa cái emulator mới đó với Wine, nhưng bài báo nì lại ko 1 câu đả động đến Wine ---> đáng nghi ngờ về khả năng Linux chạy chương trình Windows trên cái emulator mới nì.
- Thứ 2 là bài viết nói là "near-universal emulator" thế nhưng trên thực tế lại chỉ có 3 platform được hỗ trợ: MIPS, x86, PPC. ---> có vẻ như chỉ là 1 bài quảng cáo khác.
