News: Registration starts for and red dot award: product design 2005

The Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen is accepting registrations for the international design prize, red dot award: communication design 2004 until 18 June. Designers, agencies and clients from all over the world are invited to submit their communication designs for comparison with others in the industry.


The competition categories are Advertising, Corporate Communication, Financial Communication, Product Communication, Public Areas, Printed Valuables, Television and Electronic Media, Culture and Sport, Publishing and Multimedia. An independent jury of international design experts will for the first time also present the red dot: digital media this year. The red dot: junior prize will go to the best work done by a student. The red dot design award is one of the world’s most renowned design competitions. Apart from the red dot award: communication design there is also the red dot award: product design. Designers and companies can now also register their products for the design competition red dot award: product design 2005.

Presentation of 2004 red dot: product design awards

The 2004 red dot: product design awards were presented in Essen on 5 July. This year the design competition received over 1500 submissions from 32 states. Altogether, the jury awarded the internationally recognised red dot quality mark to 381 products in eleven categories, with 33 designs receiving the red dot: best of the best award. The design team of the year award went to the Italian family-owned company Pininfarina, which has distinguished itself with its outstanding design work for the automotive industry. An exhibition featuring the award-winners is being held by the red dot design museum at the North Rhine-Westphalia Design Centre in the former Zollverein colliery, Essen.
