Dear Students interested in seeking for undergraduate study in America,

Realizing an increase in the number and quality of Vietnamese applicants as well as their potentials, we are pleased to announce our visit to Hanoi on September 7 th, 2005. Dean Barry McCarty, Dean of Enrollment will hold a presentation and meet with potential applicants for Fall 2006.

Located in Pennsylvania, 70 miles from New York City and 60 miles from Philadelphia, Lafayette College is one of the most prestigious liberals arts colleges highly ranked by US News and Barrons: Guide to the most Competitive Colleges. Since it was founded in 1826, Lafayette has proved its position through its national reputation for academic excellence. Lafayette is not only known for its liberal arts education but also for its famous engineering programs. A private college with the population of 2,300 students, Lafayette is one of few colleges that have resources comparable to big universities. Our unique EXCEL research program also allows talented students to do research with professors under the educational allowance of $10/hour, not to mention many other grants from departments, Provost Office, Dean of studies, Career Services…

In the past few years, international students have played an important part at Lafayette and they are happy to benefit from an excellent undergraduate education with generous need-based financial aid from the college.

Lafayette is proud to host an exceptional academic reputation besides a pretty campus full of activities: diverse and fun! Lafayette Outreach Community Center has nearly 30 volunteer clubs. Life and people of Lafayette are not only reflected on the page but also by the quality of various student-run publications: The Lafayette- Oldest student newspaper in Pennsylvania, Marquis- literary magazine, AYA- Diversity Magazine, Maroon- Sports Magazine or Worldwise-International students Magazine… A wide range of clubs, organizations of academic interest, sports or entertainment gives every Lafayette student chances to express themselves.

At Lafayette College, International Students Association( ISA) is one of the strongest organizations, not only in term of itself as an organization but also in the affects each member brings to our campus. Lafayette international students excel academically and always remain active and prove their leadership skills at other clubs, organizations besides ISA. In May 2005, Oliver Bowen’05 ( South Africa), President of ISA, was elected Pepper Prize to be the ideal Lafayette student of graduating class of 2005. ISA programs include Host parent program through which each international student is matched with a staff member to be one source of support away from home, Peer Advisor program besides the college’s Peer Counselor program. ISA is the second home of Lafayette International students. Currently, there are two students from Vietnam at Lafayette: Nguyen Thuy Lan’07 and Nguyen Thanh Huong’08 and one incoming student this fall: Le Ngoc Ly’09.

With the academic excellence, generous financial aid policy and a special interest in international students, Lafayette College hopes to be a good snapshot for more potential Vietnamese applicants.

US News and World Report, Barrons: Guide to the most Competitive Colleges...

"Lafayette is a highly selective college and both of your students
> with us were outstanding students at HAHS and continue to be at
> Lafayette. We offer need-based financial aid to all accepted, needy
> Vietnam citizens. While our costs for tuition, room, board and fees for
> next year are $39,267. our aid expects no more from a family than it can
> reasonably provide."
