It depends on the learner. If you want to practice hard, you can work with strict teacher and vice versa. :D If you want to brush up your grammar for example you may choose a cource taught by Vietnamese teacher and so on. :D

I personally think that it is quite unnecessary to prepare much for the TOEFL exams. You can brush up on the basics yourself using a review book, without the help of teachers. But if you feel you need somebody to drive you to perform, there are countless of TOEFL coaches in town.

The first one that comes to my mind is Mr. Nghiêm. Well, he's the only one I studied with, and then only for a very short period of time, so I can't really compare him to other teachers. Another very popular teacher is Mr. Mạnh. He has a reputation of being extremely strict but very thorough in his class. I think the one in Láng Hạ St. that you mentioned is Mrs. Vân. Lastly, there are numerous English centers which employ foreign teachers but are relatively expensive.. On a side-note, even if you don't want to take the TOEFL or improve your English in general, I think you should attend some of Mr. Nghiêm's classes. You may gain some fresh, interesting perspectives - which are never superfluous, no?
 
Well, if you want to take the TOEFL, you should take some class with the teacher whose method suits you best. I recommend Mr. Nghiem, for I myself learnt in his class for more than 2 years and got a comparatively high score:D. He gives one lesson a week covering all three sections in the TOEFL. You can skip some classes without punishment. :DYou can take his class as long as you like, until you are confident to take the test.

However, his class only gives you some TOEFL practice ( but lots of other things). You can hand in tens of essays to be marked a day.:D

I also attended Ms. Vân's class. You do lots of grammar exercises but little writing.
 
Ừa đi học thầy Nghiêm đê, ko chỉ có tiếng Anh mà còn mở mang suy nghĩ ra được nhiều phết đấy (tất nhiên là khi học hay nghe bất cứ ai cũng nên biết chọn lọc)
Khiếp, nghe các em chuyên Anh nói tiếng Anh sợ quá :D Sang đây rồi lại thèm nói tiếng Việt thôi bà con ạ! :p
 
Anh Phan Vũ Toàn! Đề nghị anh để tên thật. Còn đây là board tiếng ANh việc dùng tiếng Anh cũng k0 có gì lạ. Nấu anh muốn nghe/nói tiếng Việt thì sang board khác.:D

Mr. Dzung in Back Khoa is one of the teachers I had for TOEFL. I think he's a very good teacher to start with, especially when you have a score lower than 550. He associates funny stuff with vocabs and grammars so it's kinda fun to learn with him and it's helpful too. Also I don't think that foreign teachers are helpful if you want to improve your scores substantially. It's more productive if you learn English with native speakers to improve your pronunciation and word usage.
 
Hehehe, Mr. Nghiem fan's club! I also recommend him, though I've never taken any of his TOEFL prep courses, but I actually was in one of his classes aimed at improving your translation skill for 3 years.
If you not only care about enhancing your score but your analytical thinking as well, Mr. Nghiem is my high recommendation :)

In my opinion, Mr. Nghiêm is your best bet. I studied at his place for half a year and I improve not only my English but also my social knowledge as well. The others I haven't try so I'm not sure. Nghiêm's class is near the school. Ask anyone and they'll show you.
 
:) Mình thì nghe nói nhiều đến thầy Nghiêm và thầy Dung, cả thầy Mạnh nữa. 3 thầy đấy có vẻ có nhiều kinh nghiệm lắm. Nhà thầy Nghiêm ở trong ngõ gì trên đường Kim Mã ý, hic Không biết chính xác địa chỉ .Nhưng theo mình, dù học ai đi chăng nữa, tự học vẫn là quan trọng nhất, mình học chỉ để lấy đề và hỏi thêm những cái chưa biết thôi. Chúc mọi người học tốt:)cry: hic hic Toefl thảm hại quá, phải cố gắng hết sức mới được. Anh Toàn ơi, em hứa với anh rồi đấy:cry: )
 
eo ơi thầy Nghiêm á: ông này biết nhiều thật đấy nhưng nói cũng hơi nhiều luôn. ai mà có lập trường riêng của mình không hợp với thầy thì chỉ ngồi 1-2 buổi là bye bye ngay. thầy Mạnh có tiếng lắm nhưng xin học cũng khó luôn, nghe nói là thầy còn rất hay ca trù nữa cơ, ai không thích nghe mắng nhiều thì không học nổi đâu. tóm lại, đồng ý với em Trâm, Toefl tự học là quan trọng nhất, tuy nhiên tìm được thầy giỏi hợp với phong cách học của mình thì cũng nên học để lấy phương pháp là chính, nhất là những ai hay procastinate ý :). chúc mọi người vui vẻ nha!

:( hic hic, đọc bài em mà chị Thảo lại còn hỏi có định thi lại không ah` :cry: Không thi lịa để em về VN quét rác ah huhuhu Thế này thì chết mất. Thi đúng 1/1 Tết ở nhà nữa chứ, cơ hội cuối cùng của đời em....... huhu Phải cật lực học thôi :(
To chị Thảo: kinh nghiệm viết essay thì chị cứ viết thôi, rồi nhờ thầy cô giáo ở trường sửa cho hic hic Năm trước em có anh bạn viết essay, phải nhờ 3 thầy cô giáo tất cả để sửa đến khi nào không còn chỗ để sửa nữa thì mới thôi. hic hic Kiểu này dễ chẳng kịp deadline mất :cry: :cry:

Chi vua roi bi truc trac ki thuat o cai phan nghe y the la diem nhu do hoi. Dang hoi bon ETS, phai cho den thu 2 no moi co diem. Chang biet no se noi the nao nhung day la loi cua no. Nhung chi van phai apply thoi, ko thi muon mat. Chi da miss deadline 2 truong roi, con dang cuong ca len day.

Xin hoi moi nguoi a, co van de nhay cam gi ma minh ko nen noi trong bai essay ko? VD nhu chinh tri, xa hoi..etc?
