Topic: One does not read literature to get away from life. One reads literature to understand one’s life.
There will be times you try to ease your sorrow with an entertaining story, but it doesn’t mean this brings you away from life. By contrast, it reminds you of life with people and emotion. That's why literature is said to be realistic.
With literature you exchange your time and thought for further understanding.
Certainly, no literary work is written without human appearance. Literators all over the world mean to send a humane message to their interested readers. For instance, not to mention love stories or novels, short fairy tales written for children are also reflections of life. They are made of imaginary materials, but they reflect people’s thirst for peacefulness, happiness and justice. Lively animals in La Fontaine’s parables are actually different types of people in real life: the fox-the cheeky, the fly-the fool and the swallow-the wise.
In short, human beings are the main subject of literature of all ages.
Therefore while reading a literary work, you are placed in great connection with real life. The world full of colors in “The Red Sails” or the mysterious wonderland in “Arabian Nights” do not drive you to an unreal heaven, they just emphasize the belief in life and the high praise of beautiful human world. That’s the miraculous value of literature, it livens up your occasionally calm mind. It furthers your limited view through pages of flowery words.
