By Eugene YS Han
Burnley:
Jensen: 9
Brian "the Beast with big hands" Jensen made a morale-boosting penalty save off Michael Carrick to protect Bunley's 1-0 right before half-time.
Mears: 7
A steady influence in defence. Was chopped down by Rooney.
Bikey: 8
An impressive debut from the former Reading man. His no nonsense clearances were cheered on by the fans. Nearly conceded a penalty when Valencia's cross brushed his hands.
Carlisle: 8
Withstood everything that United threw at him.
Jordan: 6
Was given a testing time by Evra.
Blake: 8
Fantastic take on the goal which is good enough to win any game. Almost turned to villian when he conceded the penalty.
McCann: 7
The 21-year-old stood up and be counted against an opposition boasting experienced internationals.
Alexander (Cpt): 8
Combined craft and graft and kept Burnley's midfield running.
Elliott: 7
Did his job well in holding off Giggs and Fletcher.
Fletcher:
Worked tirelessly up-front - an effective first-line of defence for Burley.
Paterson: 8
Tormented Brown on the left.
Subs: Gudjonsson, Thompson, Eagles.
Manchester United
Foster: 6
No chance with the goal but his kicking is still suspect.
O'Shea: 6
A stop-gap replacement in the center and will remind so.
Evans: 6
Looked lost without Rio Ferdinand beside him.
Brown: 5
Misplaced passes, tackles and generally looked lost.
Evra: 6
Great going forward and provided United's best chances. Earned the penalty after his foray in the box was stopped by Blake.
Park: 5
Worked hard but offered little in attack.
Anderson: 5
Could not exert his usual influence in the game. Subbed after an hour.
Carrick: 6
Missed the penalty but you could argue it was a great save by Jensen.
Giggs: 7
Ran the midfield well for United but Burnley managed to close him down at every chance.
Owen: 4
Could have scored in the first minute but misread Evra's cross, missed another chance in front of goal in the 37th minute. Jury is still out for Fergie's gamble.
Rooney: 5
Was not his usual inspiring self.
Subs:
Berbatov 5
Came on for Owen and probably did worst than the England man.
Valencia: 6
Came on for Anderson and showed more urgency than the Brazilian. One of his crosses came off Bikey's arm in the box but the referee did not award a penalty.
Neville 6
Came on for Wes Brown and helped steadied the ship.
