Home is Tomorrow

When I left,
The whole world I put behind
Just a new place where I lived
I felt lost, under the same sky

When I left,
"For how long?" I just didn't know
But one morning when I woke up,
I wished home would be tomorrow

When I left,
A good friend dropped me some tears
She wished me always in peace
Even in the middle of fear

When I left,
Like the old gate, silent and shy
Changed I have, a new one is made
To welcome back confidence and pride

Now, whatever lies ahead
Is unknown paths I'll have to go
It will take strength and belief
That one day, when I wake up
Home is tomorrow.

I love your poem. It reminds me of the day I decided to study abroad and the 1st day I was in the US. Thanks for sharing. :)

Comments from the Writing Contest Board of Examiners:

“There are some very good metaphorical images in this poem. So true is the feeling that the readers can relate to it. The difference between the one who just left home and the one who has grown up in a new place is nicely described. However, at times, there is a weak connection between ideas. The author takes it easy by using old cliché in places where there could have been more creativity. There are several minor grammatical mistakes.”

“The content is good, but there are many grammatical mistakes which hampers the flows of the poem and the ease of expression.”
