Mission and History
The Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship Program began in 2007 with a gift from the Sartain Lanier Family Foundation of Atlanta designated to unite and strengthen Vanderbilt’s existing full-tuition academic merit scholarships under the aegis of a coordinated and cohesive scholarship program.

The program honors the vision of Vanderbilt University’s founder, Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt, who endowed the university in 1873 with a gift of $1 million to “contribute to strengthening the ties which should exist between all sections of our common country.” Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholars continue that mission, bringing intellectual and community leadership to the Vanderbilt campus where they forge interdisciplinary and interpersonal connections that unite people and ideas across the world.

Scholarship Benefits
Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholars receive full tuition, plus a stipend to be used towards a summer study abroad or research experience following sophomore or junior year. Scholarships are renewed each year as long as the recipient maintains at least a 3.0 GPA. Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholars participate in several special programs coordinated by the Office of Undergraduate Honor Scholarships throughout the academic year.

Application and Selection
To be considered for the Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship, students must submit Parts I and IIA of the Vanderbilt Scholarship Application postmarked by January 3, 2008. Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholars are selected on the basis of academic achievement, leadership and contribution outside the classroom, and intellectual promise. In evaluating candidates, the selection committee will review the entire application for freshman admission along with the Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship application. Many of the Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarships also require an on-campus interview with faculty

Another full scholarship from Emory University, this is even more fascinating

EMORY SCHOLARS

The Program
Through the Emory Scholars Program, scholarship recipients participate in enriched intellectual, cultural, and social programs throughout their college years. Distinguished members of the faculty serve as program directors and advisers, helping the scholars to plan and execute their activities and facilitating their access to the academic and cultural opportunities of the University and the city of Atlanta. The University is pledged to enhance the collegiate lives of these Emory Scholars in every possible way.

Learn more about the program, its history, and its benefits at the Emory Scholars Program website.

The Scholars
The Emory Scholars always represent an impressive range of academic, cultural, and extracurricular interests and achievements. Most of the students have been National Merit finalists or semifinalists, and almost all have won distinction beyond the classroom, including national awards in music, languages, science, mathematics, or other fields. They have held principal leadership offices in their secondary schools, served as editors of school newspapers and yearbooks, earned distinction in scouting and similar organizations, and played significant roles in community and volunteer programs.

Nomination
To be considered for an academic scholarship, students must be nominated by an appropriate high school official, normally the college counselor. Emory mails nomination forms to high school college counseling offices in the early fall. Forms should arrive by September 15. Secondary schools may nominate up to four of their most outstanding students. You may wish to download the Emory Scholars fact sheet.

Application and Nomination Deadline: November 1
The nomination form, scholar essay, scholar recommendation and all admission application materials must be submitted by November 1 of the student’s senior year. Though the submission deadline is in November, the application is not a binding, early decision application.

A student may apply to Emory as an Emory Scholar nominee and as an early decision candidate, but if attendance at Emory is contingent upon receiving a merit scholarship, do not apply as an early decision candidate. Emory Scholar selections do not occur until early April, and early decision applicants have to pay their binding deposits in January or February.

Selection Timeline
All nominees will learn whether or not they become semifinalists in late January via the U.S. Postal Service. From a pool of approximately 350 semifinalists, Emory will select and notify scholarship finalists in late February. Emory will bring these finalists to campus for interviews which usually take place in late March.

Finalist Interview Weekend
For 2008 the interviews will take place from March 26 to March 29. Finalists will be brought to Emory (at no expense to them) for activities designed to help them become better acquainted with programs and opportunities at Emory and to aid the Scholars Selection Committee in making its final choices for the various awards. Attendance is mandatory for all scholar finalists.

Awards
Selection of merit scholars is extremely competitive. Emory typically receives 2,000 nominations and awards approximately 150 scholarships. The awards range from two-thirds tuition to the full cost of tuition, room, board, and fees. Scholarships are renewable for four years of undergraduate study, provided they maintain high standards of personal and academic excellence. All scholarships are awarded solely on the basis of outstanding merit without regard to financial need, race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, disability, veteran/Reserve/National Guard status, or national origin.

During the initial stages of the selection process, nominees will be considered as candidates for all academic scholarships. Individual scholarships are described in detail in our financial aid brochure. For those that provide full tuition, the award includes the cost of tuition for the current academic year less any other awards that a student receives designated specifically for tuition.

Recipients of merit-based scholarships may also receive other financial aid based on additional demonstrated need. The total aid from all sources may not exceed the cost of attendance.

To request a brochure on financial aid and scholarships, please fill out our online request form or you may download the brochure from this site. Additional information regarding nominations for merit-based scholarships and admission to Emory College may be obtained by writing Emory Scholars Program, Office of Admission, Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia 30322-1950 or by calling 800.727.6036 or 404.727.6036.

Hôm nay cao hứng,quyết định tiết lộ thêm vài bi kíp, tiếp tục cung cấp cho các chã ở nhà thêm vài thông tin siêu giá trị, toàn full-scholarship cả, mong các bạn đừng bỏ qua những cơ hội này:
Washington University in St. Louis - trường này mà thằng nào chưa nghe nói tới thì đáng bắn bỏ, rank 12 National Universities trên USNews, 22 giải Nobel cùng vô số các đặc điểm hàng khủng khác (tự Google để biết thêm thông tin) - School of Engineering của trường có 4 cái Alexander S. Langsdorf full-tuition fellowships, đồng thời cũng có thể apply song song cái Engineering Dean’s Awards với giá trị là 10,500$ nữa, tổng hợp lại coi như full-ride and renewable.<:p

* Engineering Academic Fellowships include:
o Up to four Alexander S. Langsdorf full-tuition fellowships
o Up to eight Calvin M. Woodward half-tuition fellowships
o Langsdorf and Woodward fellowships are renewable annually
* Engineering Dean’s Awards
o Up to 15 James M. McKelvey Undergraduate Research Scholar awards of $8,000 each to be used for research expenses
o Up to 10 Dean’s International Awards of $2,500 each to be used for travel and living expenses while studying or interning abroad
o You may apply for both an Academic Fellowship and one or both of the Dean’s Awards.
* In addition, Engineering Fellowship Program or Dean’s Award applicants may also apply for the Summer Scholars Program in Biology and Biomedical Research (if interested in biomedical engineering), Entrepreneurial Scholars Program, Ervin Scholars Program, Friends of Music Scholars Program, or Rodriguez Scholars Program.

The School of Engineering offers up to 12 merit-based fellowships to entering freshmen of exceptional promise. Each Langsdorf Fellowship provides full tuition. The Woodward Fellowships provide up to half tuition. Each award is for four years of study as long as the student is making satisfactory progress toward the degree.

In addition, freshman applicants to the School of Engineering are eligible to apply for an $8,000 James M. McKelvey Undergraduate Research Scholar award to support working with a faculty member on a research project and for a $2,500 Dean’s International Award to be used for expenses while engaged in an international summer internship or study abroad sponsored by Washington University.

Langsdorf and Woodward Fellowships

The Engineering Academic Fellowship Program recognizes first-year applicants to the School of Engineering who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, particularly in science and mathematics.

Eligibility

Finalists will be selected based on demonstrated academic achievement and leadership ability, prior research or other creative experience, contributions to school and community, quality of written and spoken communications, strength of recommendations, and potential for professional achievement. Recent finalists have been academically near or at the top of their senior classes and have achieved standardized scores (ACT and/or SAT I) in the 97th percentile or above.

On-Campus Interviews for Finalists

By early March, the School of Engineering will select up to 12 finalists for the Academic Fellowship Program. The finalists will be invited to visit Washington University for personal interviews. To remain eligible for the fellowships, finalists will need to come to Washington University for the interviews and related activities. Washington University will pay all expenses for this trip to St. Louis.

Engineering Dean’s Awards

First-year applicants to the School of Engineering may apply for the James M. McKelvey Undergraduate Research Scholar Program, which provides $8,000 each for up to 15 incoming freshmen. (You may apply for one or both of the Dean’s Awards in addition to applying for an Engineering Fellowship.) A total of up to 15 research scholarships will be awarded. The research award will support research expenses, which the student may use during the course of his or her undergraduate study. The award recipient may work with any faculty member in engineering, medicine, or science. James M. McKelvey Research Scholars will also be able to take advantage of special programming, the opportunity to publish in a special undergraduate research journal, and preparation and mentoring for graduate school.

Freshman applicants to the School of Engineering are also eligible to apply for the Dean’s International Awards; up to 10 $2,500 awards will be given to incoming first-year students. (You may apply for this award in addition to applying for an Engineering Fellowship and a McKelvey Undergraduate Research Scholar award.) The award is to be used for travel and living expenses while studying abroad for a semester or a year in one of Washington University’s international study or internship programs. Students applying for the international award should complete the Optional Essay.

Làm sao mình liệt vào scholarship for room and board được.

Quên mất,thiếu một thông tin quan trọng:
The scholarships and fellowships described above are based on academic achievement and promise and are awarded through special competitions. WUSTL also encourages you to apply for need-based financial assistance.

Nhưng bù lại Resume và transcript thì khỏi phải bàn, long lanh lộng lấy lắm, go to industry or grad schools after graduation đều dễ dàng cả. Ví dụ đề essays năm vừa rồi anh thấy khá là khó , dân Vietnam mình chắc những ai đủ writing skill to compete against other international students thì mới nên apply, tuy vậy, the more demanding the more rewarding thôi:

1. Required Essay (500 words). Engineering is all about finding creative solutions to challenging problems, such as reversing global climate change, understanding how the brain works, reinventing the Internet, and developing alter-native sources of energy. What is the most challenging question, project, or research problem you have tackled in recent years? What did you learn from this experience?
2. Optional Essay (250 words). At Washington University we offer engineering students the opportunity to pursue an international experience, should you wish to do so. Given such an opportunity, where would you go and what would you do? Why?

http://aisweb.wustl.edu/admissions/ua.nsf/ByDominoFilename?OpenView&Start=3290&ExpandView
