Everything is donated; 100% of the funds will be given to local Haiti organizations through Avaaz.org. Avaaz.org is a new global web movement with a simple democratic mission: to close the gap between the world we have, and the world most people everywhere want. Based on expert advice from leading humanitarian NGOs who have been working in Haiti for more than 20 years, Avaaz.org will give the donations to trusted local organizations, including:
Honor and Respect for Bel Air, a big community-based network in Haiti’s capital Port-au-Prince, which is also supported by the respected Brazilian NGO Viva Rio. In order to confront the multiple deficiencies facing local people in Bel Air, the project works on three different fronts in one of the most violent part of the city: providing technical support in prospecting for water in the neighborhood, helping raise the status of women in the community, and promoting public health improvements as a security strategy.
Coordination Régionale des Organisations de Sud-Est (CROSE), an organization that brings together some of the most active community groups in the South of Haiti where the earthquake struck hardest. The association bringing together 15 various movements present throughout the country (coffee producers cooperatives, school networks, womens' groups, fishermen, livestock rearers), and is active in four particular fields: Development and the economy; Social: education and health; Cultural: seeking to encourage the emergence of cultural; and Political: at a regional and national level.
Zanmi Lasante, a sister organization of Partners in Health (PiH) in Haiti. PiH and its partners have been among the first to respond with emergency medical services to the most vulnerable people. The small community clinic that first started treating patients in the village of Cange in 1985, has grown into the Zanmi Lasante (ZL) Socio-medical Complex, featuring a 104-bed, full-service hospital with two operating rooms, adult and pediatric inpatient wards, an infectious disease center, an outpatient clinic, a women’s health, ophthalmology and general medicine clinics, a laboratory, a pharmaceutical warehouse, a Red Cross blood bank, radiographic services, and a dozen schools. Today, ZL ranks as one of the largest nongovernmental health care providers in Haiti – and the only provider of comprehensive primary care, regardless of ability to pay, for more than half a million impoverished people living in the mountainous Central Plateau.

Hanoi for Haiti is being organized by a small group of concerned global citizens living in Hanoi who were moved by the traumatic personal stories of those suffering in Haiti after the earthquake, and needed to reach out and help. By bringing people together in a fun atmosphere, we know that our small efforts will be multiplied so we can really make an impact for those in need – especially as the rebuild and restructure their lives in the days to come. While a few of us are affiliated with INGOs and UN agencies, this is an event organized as a personal effort and not through any organization.
We will be accepting cash at the event, and will pay through our own credit card to .avaaz.org. We will post the receipt of the funds and payment on the internet after the event for transparency. Any wire fees or credit card fees that are incurred will be part of our personal donation. We can answer any other questions at the event. Thanks. We look forward to seeing you there!
